FAQ's

Q: What is the cost? Often the first question people ask is “how much”?

A: The price for a British Shorthair kitten born & bred in the US is dictated by a number of factors such as the regional market, color/shade/pattern/type/standard and each cat’s pedigree. Colors such as solid blue and lilac are more classic/common whereas cream, fawn, cinnamon and chocolate are more rare. Rare colors, pointed, tri-color (calico) and Tortie have a higher demand and will be on the higher end of the price range. Currently the market in the us for a registered British Shorthair (BSH) kitten aged 3-4 months is anywhere from ~$2,000-$4,000+ USD before any transportation costs. Prices for our kittens fall somewhere in the middle of this range.

Q: Are British Shorthair cats cuddly/lapcats?

A: Brits are a breed that tends to be more independent however there is a spectrum and most males will be cuddlier and females more aloof. With that said there are always exceptions to this rule. Socialization is a huge factor so the more kittens are handled the better. We hold, cuddle and play with our kittens daily and they’re socialized with other cats and small dogs. Adult Brits do enjoy being petted and talked to and about a third of mine I’d call a true “lap cat”. They are pretty independent and rarely needy or demanding.

Q: Can I breed my TLC Brits kitten?

A: Kittens registration will not be for breeding and paperwork won't be issued until kitten is altered. Spay/neuter will be completed by the deadline noted on breeder/buyer Purchase Agreement. Occasionally we may have kittens for breeding & show available for consideration to established, reputable breeders for an additional fee. Please send a message to inquire.

Q: Can kittens be shipped?

A: Kittens can be picked up by their purchaser at the airport or transported by our Kitten Nanny at the cost of Purchaser. We have worked with Pet Jet Pals  successfully to transport our cats and kittens. You can visit their website for a free Quote from Sacramento (SMF) to your nearest airport. They typically respond within 24 hours. At this time kittens may only be transported within the continental United States.

Q: How old will the kitten be when I get it?

A: As a general rule, kittens go to their new homes at 12 weeks old. Each kitten will be evaluated on an individual basis. Pictures, videos and FaceTime chats are provided regularly and/or upon request.

Q: How long is the wait for a kitten?

A: If you are on the Priority Waitlist you will be given a number that will be updated as people are offered and accept placement. If notified of availability, you will need to make your deposit within 24 hours of notification. After notifications are made, it’s based on first deposit received on a specific kitten.

Q: How do I know if a kitten is available?

A: If you are on the Priority Waitlist you will be notified by text, email and/or phone when a kitten meeting your request is available. Also, available kittens will be posted on this website and/or social media. Please refer to the following kitten status descriptions.

AVAILABLE-no deposit has been made

HOLD-1) deposit has been made but kitten selection is not final yet 2) kitten is being held for breeding program evaluation 3) kitten is on hold by breeder

Q: Do the kittens receive their shots? Are they spay/neutered?

A: Kittens are vaccinated at 9 & 12 weeks with FVRCP vaccine. At the 8-9 week mark kittens have a medical exam and FELV/FIV testing. Microchipping can be requested prior to this appointment. Kittens are wormed and parasite treatment is provided as needed.

Early spay neuter is available on a limited basis. Please inquire if you'd like this completed prior to your Kitten, leaving the Cattery.

Q: Do Brits get along with dogs?

As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words". Brits and their Dogs
